Josef Newgarden Wins Storm Delayed 2024 Indianapolis 500
Josef Newgarden won the 2024 Indianapolis 500 with a dramatic last lap pass of Pato O’Ward in a crashfest that was initially delayed by a passing storm cell and then by multiple crashes. It was Newgarden’s second successive Indy 500 victory, making him the first driver to win back-to-back Indy 500’s in 22 years when Helio Castroneves last did it.
Team Penske’s Newgarden overtook O’Ward, who has now finished second in two of the last three Indy 500’s.
New Zealand’s Scott Dixon of Chip Ganassi Racing was third.
